What Are Crampons?
Crampons are an accessory attached to your boots that are used for hiking. More specifically, ice climbing. However, crampons require a certain kind of boot with stiff-shanked features for them to stay attached safely. Hiking boots are not suitable for crampon use as these are a different type of boot.

If you plan on ice climbing, you need to have the proper pair of boots that can easily have crampons attached to them. Certain bots have a grade that corresponds with the compatibility of different types of crampons.
Boots graded B1 is good for strap on C1 crampons. The B1 boots with C1 crampons are great for use in moderate know conditions. Similarly, boots that have been graded B2 are a good fit for C1 or C2 type crampons since the boot will need to have a clip lever at the back for the crampon to engage with.
